2013 Red Siren - Zinfandel
Red Siren: The ancient sea nymph of wet dreams. She lures surfers and seaman to the tasty pleasures of wines and waves of good times. The fine makers of Purple Corduroy Wine have captured her delicious song for your lips to tile. Enjoy the stoke of her fire and seductive, savory sensation.
Purple Corduroy’s first varietal, 2010 Red Siren Zinfandel was released in April of 2011 and quickly sold out of the first bottling. Our 2013 Red Siren is a full-bodied red zinfandel, with a plush tannin profile that is balanced with integrated acidity, dark fruit influence and French oak barrels.
Lodi: Lodi has gained critical acclaim for growing conditions that facilitate ripe Zinfandel & Petite Sirah grapes of excellent character and drinkability. These growing conditions are influenced by a natural phenomenon known as the delta breezes. Combined with fertile soils, full sunshine, the delta breezes produce large temperature swings of warm days and cool nights, suitable for premium wine grape development.
Fermentation and wine making: The grapes are fermented at 85 degrees F with 3 pump overs per day to get maximum extraction. Because these are high-density fermentations, oxygen is introduced for the first few days of the fermentation as well as nutritional supplementation in order to give the yeast a healthy boost to get the job done. The wines are pressed at dryness with a minimum skin contact time of 7 days. After pressing, the wines are inoculated with malo-lactic bacteria and are ML fermented completely in barrels. The Zinfandel is aged in American oak barrels and the Petite Sirah in French oak, both for 18 months. The blend is 80% Zinfandel and 20% Petite Sirah.
Wine Design: These two varieties create an end result that is greater then the sum of its parts yielding a smoky, spicy, rich wine that is powerful. When pairing a wine with BBQ foods, or big, rich meaty dishes, having a wine that can stand up to them is essential. In Southern California, the BBQ is merely an extension of our kitchen. That is why we have a wine like “Red Siren Zinfandel” in our portfolio.
Characteristics: The color is a mystical gamet with a dark purple center. Upon first pour, brambleberry and black Bing cherries are accentuated notes of mesquite and flint. In the pallet, the wine is full and rich with considerable weight and tannins that are enveloped in black berries, dark coca and caramel while subtleties of bacon, truffles and pipe tobacco make cameo appearances. This Zin is big and bold and you’ll be feeling her seductive grip after just one sip!
